Statements of selected group members to their home town

Riihimäki – my home town I have lived in Riihimäki all my life. Riihimäki is a very good place to live and study. It is safe and many people are nice and friendly here. The population was 28 000 in 2007. The downtown is quite small but there are a lot of good shops and restaurants. We have good chances to study. We have high school, vocational institution and a few more other good schools. Nowadays I study in the Business and IT department of the Riihimäki vocational institution in my home town and I have been satisfied with studying here. This school is comfortable and we learn all kinds of important things. After graduation Riihimäki offers a lot of jobs and we have a lot of companies in many kinds of branches. In future I think I will live in almost the same area in Riihimäki or in some of the neighbouring municipalities. There are lots of places where young people can spend their leisure time, for example the youth house Monari where we can play pool, ping-pong, drink coffee and chat with friends. If somebody is into sports they can do various sports here like soccer, floorball, bowling, ice hockey, athletics, basketball and many other sports. So Riihimäki and the neighbouring municipalities are good to live in and I can recommend this place for everyone.

Riihimäki is a very good place to live in. Here you can find plenty of good hotels like Seurahuone and hotel Linnea and lots of other interesting places to visit like the water tower and the new shopping center Atomi. If you like to take care of your body you can visit the indoor swimming pool or the tennis centre in Riihimäki. You can also find lots of gyms and you can always choose freely which one you want to go to. If you don’t want to sweat you can alternatively visit the Art museum, Hunting museum or the Glass museum of Finland. We have basic schools all over Riihimäki. There is one upper secondary school and a vocational institution. We used to have a commercial college but it was merged with the vocational institution over a year ago. Studying in Riihimäki is easy here because you can find good connections to other big towns like Helsinki or Hämeenlinna. We have a railway station and a bus station which give young people in smaller towns next to Riihimäki a chance to come here by train or by bus to study here and live at home as well as visit Riihimäki during their vacation. Riihimäki is a growing town. There are many new neighbourhoods which give a chance for more people to live here. Health care is good in Riihimäki. There are several private health care centres and a hospital. There are also other places which make life easier in Riiimäki like the police station and the fire department. People working there care of you when you are in big trouble. I think the best thing in Riihimäki is that there are so many different sport clubs which you can join. There are clubs for ice hockey, soccer, swimming, Finnish base ball and various kinds of martial arts. You can’t get bored in Riihimäki. My own summary of all this is that Riihimäki is the best town in the whole of Finland. I have lived here all my life and I am going to stay here as long as possible.
